The 2026/2027 Challenger Pro League
The 2026/2027 Challenger Pro League season is the fifth season of Belgium's second-tier professional football division under its current name. The 15 clubs competing in this edition include:
- Relegated from First Division A: Dender
- Promoted from National Division 1: Virton and Hasselt
- Remaining professional clubs: Eupen, Beerschot, Patro Eisden, Lierse, Lokeren, Liège, Seraing and Francs Borains
- U23 teams: Club NXT, Jong Genk, Jong Gent and RSCA Futures
The campaign is already underway, and the teams will play home and away matches against all opponents, for a total of 28 matches per team over 30 match days. At the end of the season, the champions will receive automatic promotion to the Jupiler Pro League. The next top teams will enter a 4-team knockout playoff to earn a second promotion spot. The bottom two teams will be relegated.
Following some structural changes, effective this campaign, the U23 safety net has been abolished. U23 sides are now fully eligible for performance-based relegation. Also, their league participation fee has been lowered to €750,000 per season. The league will also adopt new FIFA and IFAB mandatory refereeing laws and VAR mandates, such as the 10-second substitution rule, 5-second restart limits, 60-second injury delays and stadium VAR explanations.
Why Bet on the Belgian Second Division?
The Challenger Pro League’s unique environment creates different opportunities for smart bettors. Team dynamics, home form and the impact of young players can make all the difference.
The youth teams feature highly creative attacking talent, but they notoriously lack the physical defensive experience. This setup often leads to open, fast-paced games and opportunities in the goals markets. The new anti-time-wasting rules will also open the door to live football betting, particularly in the bookings and fouls markets in the final minutes of a match.
Challenger Pro League betting tips, such as checking team form, lineups, injury reports and H2H history, will help you make calculated betting decisions. Also manage your bankroll carefully and use responsible gambling tools to ensure healthy betting practices.
Popular Markets for the Challenger Pro League
Betsson offers both outright and pre-match markets for Challenger Pro League betting. Outright markets focus on predicting long-term outcomes such as the title winner, teams to be promoted, teams to finish in playoff positions, top scorer, top U23 team, and teams to be relegated. Outright Challenger Pro League odds are affected by winning or losing streaks, injuries or suspensions to key players, managerial sacking, and squad strengthening in transfer windows.
Pre-match markets zero in on specific fixtures. They wager on various aspects of the game, from the match result to team or player performance. Team news, current form, pitch conditions, and H2H record are among the factors that influence pre-match Belgium Second Division odds. Top pre-match markets at Betsson include:
- Match winner: Bet on the team that will win the match. A classic that is always very popular.
- Double chance: Ideal for securing your bet by covering two possible outcomes (win or draw).
- Over/Under goals: A particularly relevant market in a league that often favours attacking play.
